Volunteer Opportunities

Welcome Parents!

Recognizing the parent as the primary teacher, SCL fosters a strong home-school relationship. Parents have access to the principal and teachers in person, by phone, and via email. There are numerous ways for parents to get involved in the school and in their child’s education.

These include:

Board of Education
The School Board furthers the overall mission of the school and acts as an advisory board. The Board of Education consists of the Principal, the Pastor, the Director of Religious Education and nine elected parishioners. Board of Education members serve a three year term.

Family Reading Night
During Catholic School week (January), SCL hosts a Family Reading Night for all school families. Parents can volunteer a number of ways – reading, crafts, snack and beverage, and donating used books.

Guardian Angels
SCL’s Guardian Angel help new SCL families adjust to school and surroundings. Guardian angels meet their families in the spring and are available year round for questions and answers ranging from school uniforms, to parking processes, to communication, to school events, and more. If you would like to be a Guardian Angel please contact Heather Luhmann or Karen Mikitin heatherluhmann@charter.net or   karenmikitin@yahoo.com respectively.

Home & School
Home and School Association is a community-building organization that is the channel for most parent activities.

Library
Volunteer to help classes pick out and check out books on library days.  Please call Sandy Mayer at 314-843-0020.

Lunch Room & Playground Assistance
The lunch parents who assist us are invaluable! They help monitor the cafeteria and also supervise students during lunch time recess. This is a paid position. Contact Karla Nowacki at 636-326-6499 or e-mail tkeiaen@aim.com if you are able to help.

Room Parents
Room parents help organize holiday parties and teacher gifts on behalf of all the parents of the classroom. These volunteers also assist in field trips and class events. Contact the Head Room Mother – Mrs. Angie Woods if you have questions regarding becoming a room parent.

Scouts

Boys in grades 1-5 are invited to join Cub Scouts, SCL Pack 646! Scouts learn to do their best in various scouting activities including monthly den meetings, Go See It outings, monthly pack meetings, Scouting For Food, Pinewood Derby, Pizza Making Day, and more. Led by parent den leaders and volunteers, it’s an amazing opportunity to work closely with the young boys of SCL in developing character and well rounded outdoor skills. Call SCL Cubmaster Carla Herberholt at 314-849-5453 with questions.

Sports
SCL provides a fun, instructive and positive sporting environment where children can learn sportsmanship and the fundamentals of sports along with other life skills that are consistent with the teachings of St. Catherine Laboure’ and the Catholic Youth Council.

School Auction
A bi-annual event, the SCL School Auction is one of the most highly anticipated events of the year. This is an important event because it is the school’s biggest fundraiser. Always fun-filled and festive, it takes many volunteers to make it a success. There are endless opportunities to participate, donate, and contribute. Please call Melissa Eichhorn at 314-729-1099 to volunteer.

School Picnic
The school picnic is a family event that everyone looks forward to! Held in May of every year, the event includes rides, game booths, food, beverages and other concessions! There are also family activities such as the cake walk, face painting, and more. There is something for everyone. An important event for all – it takes many hands to make this picnic a success. If you are interested in volunteering for the school picnic, please contact Mrs. Michelle Streb, SCL Secretary and she will direct you to the proper committee.
